Times like a million.
Snow this morning.
All flights cancelled.
We left the house at noon for the 30 minute drive out to Jakalof Bay to catch this tiny boat to Homer in the middle of a horendous storm.
One person got off the boat, and warned us that we should not leave...it's that bad out there.
Thanks, nothing like scaring the crap out of me and my 16 year old daughter!
This is us before we left.
There were 4 of us on board, plus the driver or the captain or the really young guy, whatever you want to call him. There was room for one or two more people. Small Boat. When we walked into the cabin of the boat, the seats were completely covered with snow. I was a bit confused as to why, but I soon figured out that the back door did not close. We pulled away from the dock and headed out into open water. I don't think I have ever been so frightened in my life, and I have been on some pretty scary flights recently. The waves were so huge, and I got knocked out of my seat several times.
At one point we caught so much air, the motors came completely out of the water. Later on, the person sitting next to me said he was trying really hard not to throw up. Throw up? Really? All I could concentrate on was NOT DYING in the middle of the ocean.
So we made it to Homer in one piece.
Here's my guardian angel for the day, more on that later.
But hey, let's add some more fun to this. Our captain offers to take us all to the airport. We all climb into his van, he goes to start it up, but umm, he needs to blow into something before the car will start. You know where I'm going with this right? So my angel asks him, what's up with the old blower thingy?
He tells him, I got a DUI.
Out in a boat.
In the middle of the ocean.
With a boat load of people on board.
Are you kidding me?
So we head to the airport, but hey, the flights are grounded! Of course they are. Why wouldn't they be, it's a friggin blizzard outside! So my guardian angel, member, I mentioned him earlier. He offers to drive us to Anchorage in his suburban. Oh yeah!! He just saved me $300 in airfare.
We head off to Anchorage, did I mention there was a blizzard? Yeah, I'm pretty sure I did. Several times there was complete white out, and at one point we slid towards an oncoming car. (he asked me to be kind when I told the story of his driving) I think he almost had a heart attack, though.
Please, after that boat ride, ain't nuthin' scarin' this chic!
So we arrive at Anchorage airport, 6 hours after our flight left for Seattle/LA. It took my 7 phone calls, way too many tears, and an hour and a half to get us on another plane. Did I mention that I HATE to travel? Oh, and never use Travelocity. That damn nome is evil, EVIL I SAY!! Can I just add how happy I was to have Tay with me. She was a trooper today! She kept telling me, it's ok Mommy, take a deep breath...
So we get through security, oh wait I forgot to mention that as soon as we get off the boat, I get this terrible pain in my chest. I really thought something was wrong with me, but I just figured it was stress. So we get through security, and I have to text Mom and Cindy and Shad and let them know what was going on, but I can barely read my phone. And its getting worse. I was getting one of those Aura headaches. My eyes go totally blurry, and my chest is still hurting. I swear I was heading out of this world today, but nope, I made it. I got some food in me, several Aleve, and a Massage. Oh yes I did! She worked me over good, I almost cried from the pain, but she worked it out and I feel much better.
We were supposed to be in LA at 11 this evening, but now we don't arrive til noon tomorrow. It might mess up our Disney day, but that's OK. There are lots of other things to do.
We leave at 2am, my battery is dying, and I think I need a time out.
Have a nice day.
