Tuesday Tutorial with Renee!!

Step Out Project With Glitter

When I think of using adhesive, I mainly use it for adhering photos or paper to my card or layout.  I scraplifted a fun idea from my daughter to share-using the adhesive on the reverse side for a desired affect.  I would love to show you her lovely work of art.  She has submitted it.  Good luck, dear daughter!

Supplies:

Card of choice

Solid and or patterned paper

Chipboard to glitter

Your favorite glitter

Prima flowers

Decorative  brads

Thermo-web adhesive sheet

Glue Dots

1. Place patterned and or solid-colored paper on your card to decorate using craft Glue Dots.
2. Turn your chipboard face down and cover with Thermo-web adhesive.
3. Dip the chipboard in your favorite glitter as shown.  Make sure to totally coat the chipboard with glitter.

1. Add a Glue Dot (3-D) to your chipboard and adhere to the center of your card.
2. Complete your card with decorative brads and Prima flowers to accent.

Viola, your card is complete!

You will notice that I did not put a sentiment on the card yet.  As you can see, it is totally optional.  Actually, I am deciding when I want to give it to my hubby (Birthday, Valentine’s Day, Just Because).  I know you understand!!

Log Carving Competition

The competition was a 3 day event.  Everyone started out with the same size log.  I went down the first morning and took "before" pictures, but when I went to post them I realized that I had not put in the memory card.  Duh!

So, I only have the final pictures of the carvings.

Amazing right?  The kids of Seldovia are swinging on this as we speak.

We sell T-shirts in town with the exact same otter on it that says "Sea Otters Rock."  I have already put a request in to have in put at the school, we'll see how that goes.

I wish I had time to go down and take pictures while they were carving, but there was way too much stuff going on this weekend.

Andy's Retirement Party (or Roast) was wonderful.  I was working at the harbor earlier in the day, and when the tour boats and ferry came in, tons of people got off the boats with food and gifts, all walking towards the Conference Center.  He was presented with commondations from so many different police organizations, and well as Proclamations from The Governor and an Alaska Senator.  I saw people that I had not seen since High School.  It was amazing that they all came back here to pay tribute this great man.

The stories that everyone had to tell were heart warming, and the other Troopers and Agencies that worked with him over the years, had nothing but great things to say about him and his years of service.  Thanks Chief!

Hope you are enjoying your long weekend.  I have been spreading myself between my new job, and some serious fundraising for the Booster Club.  There is a chainsaw carving contest going on this weekend, so the town is bussling with people.  We had an amazing day on Friday, and then the rain showed up Saturday afternoon. 

Today we have a retirement potluck for our former Police Chief.  He just retired after 32 years, longest Trooper in Alaska history.  The city hired him temporarily, until they could find a replacement...yeah, they never did.  He holds a special place in my heart.  When I was in high school, I lived with his family for a year.  His daughter was my best friend, and she flew in yesterday for the party.  Lots of people are coming together to make it a special day for him and to say thank you for the many years of selfless service.

Thanks Andy, Seldovia wouldn't be what it is today, without you.

Fabulous Find Friday with Sheri!!

Happy Friday everyone!  This is Sheri with your Fabulous Find post for today.   I love to “find” great stuff and love sharing it with you!

I don’t know about you but I love to use odd bits of fun things on my layouts and projects.  Rarely will you see just scrapbooking items or manufacturers embellishments on my layouts (unless it’s a project for a specific assignment).  What I mean by that, is that I love to mix the scrapbooking embellishments with other items that are not necessarily for scrapbooking but bits of found items.

Not only do I save pieces of “trash” so to speak (not really garbage but tags, papers, etc),  I do love to shop for fun bits and I’m going to share some of my favorite stops with you today (keep it under your hat, ok).

My first stop on Fabulous Find Friday is……

Sky Blue Pink 

I love this shop!  They have so many fun, cool items at great prices. 

They have some great items for collages, for art projects, for scrapbooking, you name it!  Lots of bits of ephemera packs, love the Angelina fibers, ribbon, punchinella (oh yeah baby)!!!  I have ordered many times from them and their service is great.  They’ve even thrown in some freebie goodies as a thank you for ordering.   Go take a look at their website, but you better wait till you have some time because you’ll get sucked in for a while!

Paper Valise

Again, just a cool little place on the web that has some really unique pieces. 

You have to go check it out for yourself because there are so many great things over there, I couldn’t pick a favorite or possibly share them all.  I love that there are vintage pieces and great little bits that you can’t find anywhere else.   I love using these kinds of things on my layouts and projects.  Adds just a bit of the unexpected and leaves people wondering “Ooooh, where did she find that?”  Ok, well, maybe not….. but cool stuff anyway!

This store has just a mish-mash of beautiful things; beautiful butterflies (which I’m in love with), gorgeous colors of raffia ribbon, the cutest little flowers…love it all.

Inspire Lovely

This little shop gets a lot of my money!!!  I love absolutely everything in it.  I don’t know, maybe it’s the cute packaging that gets me.  No, it’s the stuff.  I just love the cute labels in all those different colors.   Those cute little colorful tags, the kraft stickers, and those great transparency embellishments…YUM!

Talk about some eye candy.  Everything I have ever ordered from this little shop is absolutely perfect.  I’ve never been disappointed.

8th Grade Graduation

Today Chance graduated from 8th grade. 

Last year, when we lived in Washington, Taylor had graduated from 8th grade.  She went to a pretty small school, there were only about 400 kids promoting up to High School.

Today, here in Seldovia...

There were 2.

Today, Chance and Nathan promoted up to the 9th grade.  The High School girls are excited to actually have some boys in High School with them next year.

It was a quick 10 minute ceremony.  The 3 Preschool kids went first.

This is the first year, in the history of our school, that there has been no graduating Senior Class, so it was quick and to the point.

This is our Principal, and a great friend.  She cares about our kids so much, it just warms my heart!

These are two of the most serious boys that I know.

Tuesday Tutorial with Danielle!!

Many of us were first introduced to Pinterest by Sophie a couple
months ago and our friend, Tiffany, has not been shy about her love of
beautiful things on this new site. I too have been pinning away (and
drooling) over all the gorgeous finds and endless inspiration.

One of my early repins was of a vintage-like photo in a mason jar
filled with oil. I've been thinking about it ever since and hunted
down the source, Corrine Krough's blog, August and After, and finally
made one myself.

Supplies:

Glass jar with lid (I used an old candle jar)
Photo, trimmed to size
Vegetable oil
Twine
Craft flowers
Vintage button
Glue Dot

1. Place photo in the jar and fill with oil.
2. Wrap twine around the top.
3. Sew button onto the flowers and adhere to the twine with a Glue Dot.



The photo I used in the jar was taken of one of my daylily plants in
early spring. I photographed the jar next to that very same plant, now
nearing it's bloom time.

Sea Days in Seldovia

Last week during the Workforce Academy, the kids had a "Sea Day."  The Seldovia Bay Fast Ferry took the High School and Elementary kids across the bay to Homer, then gave them a guided tour on the way back to Seldovia.  They got to see Gull Island, and lots of different sea critters.  The boat was staffed with Marine Biologists to answer their questions.

Here's the boys right before they left.  The little red head in the front is my nephew, Frankie.  He and Logan are two peas in a pod, like they have always known each other.

Taylor in her new glasses.  Side note: when we went to her eye appt, the doctor tested her old glasses.  The previous eye doctor had put the prescriptions in the wrong lenses. So the left eye was in the right, and the right was in the left.  No wonder she didn't want to wear them.  But she likes her new ones, and she can see!

I told her to take a picture with her brother.

He was not amused.

But he got over it!

When they pulled into Homer, look who they saw!

The girls were so excited.

And how do you top that excitement?

Give them a tour of the boat!

And then throw in a hot guy painting the boat, what more could those High School girls want?

Then they got to meet Eddie, he's a regular on the show (Deadliest Catch for those of you that don't watch.)

There's that hot guy again.

Swoon!

  The Jr. High got to take their trip in the afternoon, but by then the Time Bandit had left, so they missed out.

It was just another great thing that my kids got to do while living in our small little town.

Chance and I talked about doing a wave cam.  Everyone here waves when you drive by them in the car, even if they don't know you.  We thought we would mount the camera on the dash and drive around for 10 minutes and see how many people waved at us.  Haha...the things we do for entertainment!

Oh, and the yearbook is done!

Not sure why it looks all wanky, but it turned out great.  I spent all evening Friday, most of the day/evening on Saturday and finished it up with the kids on Sunday afternoon.  We printed 60, 68 page yearbooks.  Glad to finally get that off my plate, I've had a few restless night over it.

Yep, that's me.  I also got a new job with the Fire Department.  I get to paint my office next week, any color I want...even pink!  Those silly boys have no idea what's in store for them.  :)~

Bookmarks!

I was so inspired by the cute bookmarks that Norazah shared with us last week, I decided to make some too. 

I happened to have some 3"x5.8" Maya Road 3-ring Rectangular Canvas Albums, so I used those.  I opened up 2 packages, pulled out the rings, and that left me with 12 canvas's to use.

I used some of my Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists, and sprayed the front and backs of the canvas.

I glued on lace and embellishments on some,

And used stamps on some.

I tied some ribbon through the grommets,

And was done!  Great end of the year Teacher gifts.  Thanks for the Inspiration Norazah!

Tuesday Tutorial with Wendi!!

Layered Flowers

This is a fun way to have your flowers match whatever project you are working on.

step 1: Supplies needed: paper, twill, mist, button, bling, adhesive

step 2: Cut paper into a 12x.75 strip

step 3: Apply adhesive onto the 12x.75 strip

step 4: pleat strip into a circle shape

step 5: Mist your twill

step 6: Sew a loose straight stitch down the length of the twill. Pull string and bunch twill into a gather

step 7: bunch twill into a circle shape

step 8: mat paper circle onto you twill circle and adhere

step 9: adhere button on the center of the circle

step 10: adhere bling onto your button

step 11: adhere your flower to your project.

My Secret Place 2011

That was the last minute theme to this year's Prom.

Taylor was at her cousin's house getting her hair done, and didn't arrive home untill 8:15, and we were supposed to be at the school at 8.  Her boyfriend and Chance's date were already there waiting, so she had about 3 minutes to jump into her dress before we left.

I only took 3 pictures of her before we had to leave.

Her dress was a bit plain on top, so I thought it needed something around the waist.  I made a rolled satin flower and added a pin back to it.  Then I tied the ribbon around her waist, and pinned on the flower.  I like how it turned out, and it matched her shoes and wrap.

Here she is posing with her "little" brother.  Nice shoes, right?  My Mom totally caught that!  Hey, this is Seldovia, it's not like I have any place to go buy dress shoes.

This is Chance and his date Amanda.  She was also his date to Homecoming, but they are not boyfriend and girlfriend.  Whatever.

His tie is driving me crazy!

These are our High School girls, minus 2.  Yep only 7 of them, and more drama than you could EVER imagine!

At the end of school, for two weeks, they have a workforce Academy here in Seldovia.  Kids come in from other villages, and they all take some really cool classes together.  Shad is teaching at the academy this year.  He's teaching, Drywall, Septic Systems, Small Engines, Hunter Safety and Leadership.

We scheduled Prom while those kids were here so we would have more kids in attendance.  The community is also invited, but 6th grade and below have to leave at 10pm.  The little ones had so much fun!

Here are a few 5th and 6th grade future Divas.  Love the attitude!

And this is Alliah.  She's in 3rd grade, and she asked Logan to the Prom.  How cut is that??  He didn't go, because he was too embarassed to dance.  Maybe next year.

They had a blast at the Prom, and Shad lead the activities for the after Prom Lock In.  They had Minute to Win It games, Black Ops, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Wii games, Ping Pong, Gym and Pool Time and tons of food and prizes.  They all came home at about 6am, and slept most of the day.  I finished up the Prom pages for the yearbook, and I will start printing it tomorrow.  I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

Tomorrow is Prom.  Taylor's boyfriend has been in Mexico for the last 2 1/2 months, and he got back last week.  She is so excited to go to Prom with him.  And Chance is going with an 11th grader.  Kinda weird, but we have a shortage of boys here, so he's quite popular, even for an 8th grader!  LOL

I will post pictures...depending on what time I get home.  I have to take pictures of the kids at the beach, then at the dance, so I should have lots to choose from.

Thursday Tutorial with Norazah!!

Today's tutorial is making a bookmark using acrylic paint on canvas. It's very easy..



1. You can use 1 piece of your canvas album.Mine I used prima's canvas



2. Cut into 2 pieces. Wet you canvas with water..(sprinkle)



3. Put your choice of colour at the tip of the brush and start colouring on your canvas.To
get lighter version of colour, sprinkle more water. If you satisfied with your colour, dry it using heat gun.

4.Decorate your bookmark with any stamp using staz on.


5.Lastly embellish your bookmark with buttons, blings or ribbons.

I hope all you fabulous Moms had a wonderful Mother's Day!

I spent mine my favorite way...not getting dressed all day!  We were going to make a trip out the road to Jakalof Bay to go clamming and tidepooling, but it started to sprinkle a bit, and that is not how Mom wanted to spend her day.  So I got spoiled all day by Shad and the kids.  Shad made some yummy baked halibut for dinner, and I just cruised around my scrap area and got a few drawers cleaned out.

Today, Logan and I are headed to Homer for a couple hours. woo hoo.

Hello everyone! Jennifer here on this Fabulous Friday!

I want to share who has been inspiring me the past few years on the layouts/cards I create.

I surf the net quite a bit for inspiration. But there are a few ladies I always come back to and surf their blogs for some scrappy inspo.

For some scrappy randomness, I get inspired by

When I say "randomness" I mean their placement of embellishments. It's so carefree and fun.

I also love the works of Iris Babao Uy http://irisbabaouy.typepad.com/creativecorner/ and Larissa Albernaz http://lariscrap.blogspot.com/. Their attention to detail has always gotten me to really accent my projects with lots of embellishments. They are the reason why my layouts are decked out so much!

I also love using a tone-on-tone technique and my border and other punches. Kelly Purkey http://kellypurkey.typepad.com/ and Sasha Holloway http://sassysasha.typepad.com/mygoodies/ have always gotten me to go this route in almost all my layouts. Punches are one of the greatest investments I have ever made and they make my scrap creative juices so much easier and faster.

It's getting to be the end of the school year here.  We have 3 weeks of school left, Prom is next weekend, and I have to have the yearbook done by early next week.  Busy, Busy, Busy!

I have some amazing news, but I can't share it quite yet.

I was contacted by Elmers Glue last week.  They wanted me to join their Craft and Tell Project.

I'll be hosting a small Craft get together for 10 ladies in my area, and Elmers sent me some wonderful goodies to give to everyone.  I have scheduled it in June, and I will post all the details when I finalize them.  It's going to be a lot of fun, wish you were all here to join in!

Tuesday Tutorial with Jolanda!!

Today I am going to show you a quick and easy way to make vines out of paper towels.

Step 1;take a paper kitchen towel.

Step 2; cut it in pieces,for thicker vines you can take a whole or half towel.

Step 3;turn them around between your fingers.

Step 4;spray it with glimmer mist,you can use any color you want.

Add them to you cards or layouts for some great added dimension and texture!
